Helly Hansen's story begins in 1877 with the Norwegian captain of the same name. Years at sea led him to develop oilskin jackets, trousers, sou'westers and tarpaulins. They were an instant success and were soon mass produced for export. Today, more modern coats and jackets are a mainstay with over 30,000 produced each month.
